Jade Buddha Temple in Shanghai

Francis visited this Temple in Shanghai, on October 23, 2012.
  • P1000466  The Temple is famous for its two Buddha statues, carved from a single enormus piece of white jade.
  • P1000443  The Temple, built originally in 1888 (but rebuilt in 1918-1928),  is of course now surrounded by skyscrapers.

  • P1000446  Strangely one cannot take pictures of the famous jade Buddhas. I had taken this picture before noticing the sign: "NO PHOTOGRAPHY". This Buddha is 2 meters tall.

  • P1000438  In all buildings, except the Grand Hall,there were stalls where you could by souvenirs of all kinds.

  • P1000454  At 4 PM a group of monks came to have a service in the Grand Hall. We were allowed to take pictures of them inside the Grand Hall.
