"JACQUE FREDERICK PAHUD GREAT GREAT GRANDFATHER
Jacque (John) was born on the 15th of March 1819 in Bioley Magnaux Switzerland and was educated as a civil engineer. Jacque married Louise Virginia Perey in the village of Donneloye Switzerland. On the 20th of May 1842 at the Evangelical Reformed Church and set up they're new home in Bioley Magnaux. A relative of my Mother stated to her, " that nearly the entire village there is Pahud's and this family lived in the village prior to the 1670's". The family came to the U.S.A. sometime in the late 1840's Cecile, the fifth child was three years old when the 1850 census was taken and her birth place is shown as Switzerland. The Pahud family is listed as living in Ripley, Jackson County, Virginia (this county now part of West Virginia) and Jacque lists his occupation as farmer. Jacque was supposedly a farmer and surveyor and owned a lot of slaves. Roy Mcnutt who was somehow related to the 6th child, Adriane, gave this information to my mother's Aunt Emily? Two of the girls were twins, one was my g. grandmother Adele. The family moved to Greenville, Illinois in 1855. Jacque died in Dec. 1862 at 43 years of age and his wife lived on until March 1877. Both are buried in Greenville, Ill. The family consisted of eight children as follows:
Emile born 1842, died 1864 at Vicksburg, Mississippi. . Emile was taken prisoner at the battle of Vicksburg, Miss. during the Civil War and eventually escaped with three comrades. Four days after escaping, the Rebels tracked them down with bloodhounds. When they were caught, the dogs were allowed to bite and mangle the men and when the dogs were called off, it was found that Emile had been choked to death by the dogs. Emile was buried by his three comrades at the scene of his death on May 14,1864. (Alfred Emile Vuagniaux was likely named for this man).
Emma born 1843, died in 1862, never married
Isaline born 1845, married a Bartolmieì and had nine children
Adele
Was a twin of Isaline. My g. grandmother, born in 1845 in Everdon Switz and died
in Council Bluffs. Ia. in 1914. She had nine children.
Ceclie born 1847 in Switz and died in 1903, Married a man named Kerhshner had nine
Children
Adrian born 1885 and died in 1889. His date of death may not be correct. Some other information shows he had four children
Hortense born 1856 and died in 1864 in Ill."
